Frequently asked questions
All the questions you've asked us about the cooperative.
Where can I watch the presentation replay?
#
You can watch the full presentation right here:
I live abroad: can I subscribe to shares?
#
Yes, no problem! However, the tax rules in your country of residence aren't the same, so there probably won't be eligibility for the IR-PME tax reduction. And if interest is distributed on the shares, the tax rules that apply will be those of your country of residence.
What is the minimum/maximum number of people on the cooperative council?
#
3 people minimum, 9 maximum, with a seat reserved for each college. If there aren't enough candidates, we fill the remaining seats with several members from the same college, or we hold another General Assembly.
What happens to members who commit misconduct? (e.g. gender-based and sexual violence)
#
As described in the Internal Rules, members who don't comply with these rules, who make remarks or commit acts that could harm the cooperative's image, or who are convicted, will be excluded from the cooperative and from its discussion and work spaces.
Which decisions does the executive make, and which are voted on by the colleges?
#
The executive manages the company day to day: dealings with platforms and studios, paying royalties, tracking sales, setting up discounts, adding games to the catalog, developing tools, etc. In the General Assembly, the colleges vote on the budgets and the actions to be undertaken during the year, and they also vote to approve or reject the current executive and the actions carried out.
What is the editorial line?
#
For now, it remains to be determined by the cooperative as a whole.
How will games be selected?
#
The executive makes a pre-selection from the games received and passes it on to the Cooperative Council (including the games that were rejected and why). The Cooperative Council then chooses, according to the process it will have decided on, the games that will be published.
Will there be opportunities for freelancers with the cooperative?
#
This is a question we don't yet have a definitive answer to. We hope the cooperative will help connect freelancers, artists, and devs with studios that have needs. But that isn't the cooperative's primary goal, and it never can be.
What happens in the event of a tie in the colleges or the cooperative council?
#
The President of the Cooperative Council has the final say in the event of a tie. For the colleges, proportional voting weighted by college makes a tie impossible.
From when can I subscribe to shares, and until when can I make a pledge?
#
You can subscribe to shares right now with the early subscription form, and it will be possible to take shares throughout the entire lifetime of the cooperative.
Is the €15–20k envelope for the studio, or is it dedicated to marketing, localization, etc.?
#
The envelope is spent on the TyGAMES side on services such as localization, QA, marketing, and influencers. We don't fund production for the time being. That said, if a studio has an urgent need for money to stay afloat, we'll discuss it.
Is there a limit to the maximum number of shares one person can hold?
#
There's no limit on shares, but holding a lot of shares (and therefore capital) doesn't grant more power. It can, however, mean more dividends.
How much weight does a studio carry within its college?
#
The studio college holds 30% of the vote in the General Assembly. That 30% is split among all the studios, so each studio has 30% × 1/number of studios.
Who is the mentoring aimed at?
#
Mentoring is offered to people/studios working on their first commercial production(s) who don't yet have much experience, or who have a specific need (producing, for example).
If I hold a share as an individual, can I also acquire some through my studio or sole proprietorship?
#
Yes, you can take shares both as an individual and as a company. Note: a sole proprietorship (micro-entreprise) or an author-artist status is considered individual, so it can't be combined.
To join the studio college, does the game need to be released or already in development?
#
To be discussed when the case arises; the idea is to stay flexible on this rule, as long as a game is at least in development. If that game doesn't come out after a certain amount of time, the Cooperative Council can assign the member to another college.
What is your position on LLMs and generative AI?
#
We're against the use of generative AI in artistic fields: visuals (2D, 3D) and audio (sound, music, voice). Using this technology in that context will result in our refusal to publish and distribute. For code, given how pervasive these tools are, we expect the developer to use them in moderation and to retain complete mastery of their code at every point in production.
At what point should we present/pitch a project to you?
#
Whenever you want! :) We'll give you feedback as much as we can, but the sooner we know about your project, the better we can organize ourselves or point you in the right direction.
Do you have contacts for support on Asian markets?
#
This is a topic currently being developed within the organization; we're looking for partners.
What share of the operating budget relies on membership and the purchase of shares?
#
For the initial budget (2027), it's a critical share because it's there to leverage the other sources of funding. After that, we need to stabilize the business through game sales (distribution, publishing) and through sales of the ERP tool, and rely less on new members joining.
What's the benefit of taking 20 shares rather than 10?
#
Supporting the cooperative. Money is the lifeblood, especially at the start. You'll also get more dividends if there are any at some point.
Is it open to unions? To other publishers?
#
To be discussed. For unions: this seems delicate to us, especially if we have employees who could be unionized; while the discussion remains open, we'd need to define together what we can bring to each other. For publishers: for reasons of competition, it doesn't seem desirable to us for a publisher/distributor to join the membership. We're entirely open to considering other commercial collaborations.
How are decisions concerning studios made?
#
The studio remains the decision-maker on everything concerning their productions and their games. We discuss and give advice, but in the end we don't make the final decision (e.g. presence on a platform, pricing, etc.).
I'm already an employee at a studio : can I buy shares as an individual?
#
Yes, no problem at all!
